Well, I've decided to "go green." Honestly, I feel that term is past its prime and bordering on annoying so maybe I'll just say "simplify my life." Regardless of the phrase, I feel I need to take a look around my home and take stock of what products I'm using, how I'm using them, how my home is organized, what food we're consuming, etc. and come up with some improvements and practical solutions. I love my home (our first house!) but there's no denying that it could use some sprucing up. Now that the wedding is over and the rings are on our fingers, I can't think of a better time to revamp and revitalize our surroundings.
We've been slowly, slowly trying to be more environmentally aware at our house. We recycle, have a small vegetable garden and last year even purchased a rain barrel. But I feel it's time to do more, both for the sake of the environment, as well as for our own health, and I've decided to start with changing out the cleaning products I use. We have two dogs and a son so the thought of constantly spraying toxic, storebought cleaners just feels so wrong. And the smell ain't so lovely either. 20 minutes of cleaning the bathroom and I've usually got a wicked headache. Plus, my checking account is in love with the idea of saving money by using simple, basic ingredients I likely already have around the house.
To that end, I've been searching online for some tips and recipes to try out this weekend. I'll be back next week to report on my findings and to credit the sites that proved to be most helpful.
